Description

Arrive JRO airport and meet with our driver guide.Transfer to MOUNT MERU HOTEL in Arusha and a chance to recoup from your voyage.

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast we begin our journey with a drive to Tarangire National Park for a full-day safari. The park gets its name from the Tanangire River which attracts both zebra and wildebeest during their annual long-distance migration.Elephants also inhabit this special ecosystem which is noted for its fabled baobab trees. We'll stop for a packed lunch and then head to Karatu in the late afternoon.

Today we visit the central part of the Serengeti National Park. As we drive towards the Serengeti plains keep alert for a leopard sleeping in the tree tops. Once inside the gates of the park you'll enjoy an afternoon game drive and witness the largest population of hooved animals anywhere on the planet.

After a hearty lodge breakfast we'll begin our drive towards the northern plains of the Serengeti. Our goal today is to seek out herds of wildebeest as they cross the plains during their annual migration. We'll also look for the"big cats" that closely follow the herds. By this point your driver will feel like part of your "family" experience and you won't hesitate to ask him to stop just a little bit longer as you continue to photograph what will soon become priceless memories.

On today's full-day game drive you'll continue to experience why the Serengeti calls to so many adventurers. Wildebeest numbering in the millions attempt to cross the croc-infested Mara River during the animal migration. Be prepared to experience first-hand one of natures' most unforgettable dramas.

Our third day in the northern Serengeti will give you ample opportunities to continue your search for the "big five" as well as hone your bird recognition skills.

Between sightings our highly knowledgeable guides will initiate you into the fascinating and hidden world of the symbiotic relationships of our wildlife.

Today we'll head back towards the Central Serengeti. Because the region supports a much greater diversity of resident wildlife than anywhere else in the National Park its well worth a second safari: elephant, giraffe, impala, waterbuck, hippo, topi, reedbuck, buffalo and baboon may all be in your sights today.

Guaranteed to be a highlight of your safari, today's drive begins with an early morning descent into the crater itself. Notice the change in temperature as we drop down onto its floor and the spectacular panorama that will make up the backdrop for your day of magic. We'll enjoy a mid-day break along the shores of one of its most animal rich lakes, a favorite watering hole of hippo and waterfowl.

We finish our journey with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park made famous by its tree climbing lions. This small park offers breathtaking views and a large variety of habitats:acacia woodlands, baobab strewn cliffs, hot springs, swamps and the lake itself. It also supports a large number of animal species and has the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world. One of our stops, the hippo pool, also appeals to the bird lovers in our groups. From Manyara we head out for a special cultural visit to  a Maasai "bomba" or village where you'll view traditional dances and gain a special insight into Maasai culture.

After breakfast at the lodge our guests connecting with a  morning or afternoon flight will be transferred to JRO airport. Guests catching an evening flight will have the opportunity to visit the SHANGA WORKSHOP and VISITOR CENTER in Arusha where they may observe people with disabilities creating stunning handmade jewelry and glassware - all for purchase in the gift shop. If your flight schedule permits you may also enjoy a leisurely lunch at SHANGRA'S excellent on-site cafe before being driven to the airport and your farewell to your guide and to Tanzania.
